2 : a government program providing benefits to members of a specified group; also : funds supporting or distributed by such a program.
3 : belief that one is deserving of or entitled to certain privileges from.

Bird Feeders & Individual Responsibility

Best line from the Encyclopaedia Britannica.  Generally, the granting of government assistance to individuals as mandated by law or by need.  Recipients of such assistance may be entitled to it by virtue of their status, without otherwise having to qualify for it.

Entitlement mentality is a cancer in our great country. The Federal and State Governments are giving more and more handouts while entitlement programs like Medicare and Medicaid are virtually bankrupt.  We are at the fork in the road, we can continue down the entitlement road and bankrupt our country,  or we can do the right thing and be accountable for our own results.  There is a great saying, “If it is to be, it is up to me”.

Character and Ethics? Leadership, Mentor, LIFE.

Character -the complex of mental and ethical traits marking and often individualizing a person.

Ethical– conforming to accepted standards of conduct.

Here would be a couple of examples of lack of character and ethics.

  • Federal investigation into the Minerals Management Service shows inspectors passing around porn, using illegal drugs and accepting gifts from oil companies.
  • Congressman: Anthony Weiner ring a bell.
  • Sex Scandals-Tiger Woods, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, President Clinton, etc, etc, etc
  • Enron, Delay, Arthur Anderson, on and on and on.

“Acceptable standard of conduct”, what is the acceptable standard today?  I’ve heard people say, “doing the right thing” is proper conduct.  So what the right thing?  The Bible is the only place I know where to find the “right thing”.  If you don’t believe in a higher power then that only leaves man to determine what is “acceptable standard of conduct”.  I know some has had to notice that the more we remove God from our government, schools, and society the greater the range of “acceptable” man allows.  We can talk all day about the problems with our politicians, sports athletes, pastors, and CEO’s but it all comes down to Character and Ethics.  How can we bring this county back to greatness if our leaders and policy makers do not start with these qualities.

LIFE Team, Millionaire neck up, Minimum wage neck down.

Listened to Bill Lewis, Team Leader, LIFE Coach, and Mentor tonight.  Bill reminded me of the saying, ” we are all worth minimum wage from the neck down”.  It is what we put into our mind by the way of books, cd’s, seminars, and mentor-ship that determine our quality of our life.  It’s like your mother always said, “be careful who you hang around with”.

Orrin Woodward in his post LIFE TEAM RETURN on INVESTMENT, had a great line,  “Sadly, most people  neglect the greatest gift that God gave them (their mind), choosing instead to pour money into areas with little or no return on investment”.  I really can’t add more to what these great leaders have to say other than as you learn it feeds your hunger to learn more.  It can also sometimes be madding because the more your learn the more you realize just how much you don’t know.  Regardless of where you are on your learning and self growth journey, keep it up, there are people who need to be inspired by your example.

Plan Do Check and Adjust, Leadership, Mentorship.

Two great articles posted by ORRIN WOODWARD and TERRY FRANKS on Plan Do Check and Adjust.  The Deming Cycle of Plan Do Check (Study) and Act (Adjust) is a great model to be used in all areas of life.  Whether it be in the “8 F’s” Faith, Family, Fitness, Finance, Freedom, Following, Friends, and Fun, or anything you undertake in life PDCA is a good plan.

So many people skip the Plan, and jump straight to the Do, and then forget to evaluate the Check.  I believe another area people miss in the process is a proper evaluation in the Check step.  I think the biggest problem is many times this step requires the inspection of an independent party and hopefully a mentor.  We can be so close to the process we can not objectively evaluate our process.  Areas such as self-improvement can be so personal that only others or a mentor can help with the Check process.

Leadership Polarizes because Truth is Polarizing…Orrin Woodward Leadership

Great article by Orrin Woodward Leadership Guru this morning, Leadership Polarizes because Truth is Polarizing.  All great leaders have critics, there is no way around it.  If you want to be liked by everyone you will probably not be much of a leader.  No matter how noble or pure of heart your mission there will be people who question your motives.  I wish before people accepted things as facts they asked, what are the motives of the critic?

So as LIFE rolls on and I personally strive to improve everyday and Live Intentionally for Excellence, I am sure there will be critics show up.  So we must move in the direction of our calling and disregard the naysayers.  Orrin quoted Abraham Lincoln, “With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in.”

Thomas Stone, one of my favorite Founding Fathers. Freedom, Leadership.

With all his accomplishments as a lawyer, delegate to the Continental Congress, committee member for the drafting of the Articles of Confederation, and signer of the Declaration of Independence, the following line tells me what kind of man he was.

But he gave up the practice of law to care for Margaret and their growing children. As her health continued to decline, he gradually withdrew from public life. When Margaret died in 1787, he became depressed and died less than four months later in Alexandria, reportedly of a “broken heart”.

Only 44 at his death he left a legacy and a mark on history.  Not much is known about his life in total but I believe Thomas was probably working on all 8 F’s in his life. We know he was strong in Family, Freedom, and Finance.
